Bankruptcy Filings in Florida Continue to Increase

Sun-Sentinel.com is reporting that bankruptcy filings throughout Florida, particularly South Florida, are continuing to increase.  Bankruptcy filings in counties like Indian River and Monroe have experienced a drastic increase.  Statistics are reporting that these counties have had an 83% increase in bankruptcy cases filed compared to the same time last year.

In the past month, 1,759 bankruptcies were filed.  And, in September 2007, only 961 bankruptcies were filed for.

Broward County reported 500 bankruptcy filings this September compared to 314 a year ago.  And, Palm Beach County reports that 262 personal bankruptcies were filed for compared to 160 last year.

Aside from personal bankruptcy filings, the number of businesses filing for bankruptcies also increased in South Florida.  With the economy continuing to suffer, it looks like the trend will continue.
